A cinematic meditation on humanity’s evolving relationship with nature — where every species carries a story of transformation.
STORY
As Messengers explores how ever-shifting social imaginaries entangle humans with the biosphere. A cast of characters moves through five alternate timelines, revealing a kaleidoscopic set of speculative “historical forks” — moments where different relationships between species and worlds might have unfolded.
In these parallel realities — and the liminal spaces between them — non-human beings emerge as messengers of the ongoing biodiversity crisis, echoing both ancient myth and future possibility.
PROJECT
As Messengers was presented at Allard Pierson Museum in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Created by Matthew C. Wilson and Emilia Tapprest, the film was supported by the Mondriaan Fund and produced in collaboration with an international cast and crew.
